KENT DELORD HOUSE MUSEUM

Built in 1797, the house is one of the oldest residences in the area and filled with outstanding examples of paintings, furniture

and decorative arts as well as household objects used by the Delord family from 1810 - 1913.  Henry Delord added the

conservatory on the left for the raising of grapes.  British officers made their headquarters at the house during the Battle of

Plattsburgh.  From September 6, 1814 to the beginning of the battle, the British Engineers used the house while they set up

batteries in front of the house to bombard the American positions south of the Saranac River.  The British left a tea chest

behind them when they hurriedly retreated.
