THOMAS MILLER
HOUSE

|
Col. Thomas Miller was Commander of the 8th regular New York Militia. His home was occupied by British troops during the Battle of Plattsburgh. Original house burned in 1844. From this site, Mrs. Elizabeth Conklin Miller viewed the struggle on the lake along with British troops who occupied her house. Her husband was at the front with his regiment. Several times the British officers affirmed that the Stars and Stripes had gone down, and each time she was denying it. When the result of the conflict was evident, the officers lost no time in mounting their horses and riding away. |
