WHO MAY QUALIFY                                     

              The Battle of Plattsburgh Historic Trail Patch and Medal may be earned by all registered Boy Scouts, Explorers,  Girl

            Scouts, Registered Scouters and the general public may also qualify.

 

   REQUIREMENTS

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                

        Applications to take the hike should be made as a unit.   A Scout Tour Permit, for units outside the Adirondack District must

          be procured from your local Council, and the application form should be forwarded to the Adirondack District at least two weeks

          before the hike, so that proper credentials can be forwarded to you in plenty of time.

          No credit can be given for hiking without credentials cards.  One information booklet for each group of  hikers will be provided

          with the  credential cards.  Refunds are not given, but credentials will be honored on any future hike dates.

 

  PREPARATION FOR THE HIKE

 

              There must be 2 adults for every 8 to 10 Scouts making the trip.  A registered adult leader (twenty-one years of age) in

            responsible charge of each hiking group at all times.  He/She shall certify to the accuracy of the group's hiking records and to

            the adequacy of each hiker's preparation and qualification for the award.

 

   TRAIL REGULATIONS 

 

             The unit must travel as a group during the entire hike.  Every Scout on the Battle of Plattsburgh Historic Trail should

          realize that he is an emissary of the Boy Scouts of America, that his conduct and method of procedure will be

          beneficial or detrimental to those who follow.  This trail runs through publicly as well as privately owned areas, and

          the hiker must remember that we are guests.     

          It is essential that every Scout maintain a high standard of courtesy and friendly consideration for the property of others.

          Each hiker must carry his own water supply.

          At the conclusion of the trail, the unit leader should then check to see that each hiker has signed his/her own

          credential card and that he/she (unit leader) has also signed.  The credential card of each hiker should be

          returned to the Adirondack District Trail Committee.  When the District has received the above items, all patches

          and medals will be handed out or mailed out to the leader's home address.
